CCR’s majority shareholder, Millennium Gaming, Inc., is owned by the companies’ founders William Wortman and William Paulos. Wortman and Paulos also own Millennium Management Group (MMG). In 1999 MMG entered into a management agreement with Greektown Casino, LLC (Greektown) to assist Greektown in the development and management of a commercial casino to be located in downtown Detroit, Michigan. MMG provided assistance and input to Greektown in connection with all aspects of the $160 million temporary casino from design, construction, and the start of operations. MMG prepared Greektown’s formal proposal for The City of Detroit, which won one of three available Michigan gaming licenses. MMG was licensed by the Michigan Gaming Control Board in May 1999. The property opened in November 2000.
In 2002, MMG took control of the Regent Casino in Summerlin, Nevada. The firm remodeled the casino, re-branded the property as Rampart Casino, and initiated a comprehensive marketing plan to attract local customers. Today, it’s still one of the most successful turn-around stories in Las Vegas.
In 2001, the MMG partners established CCR with the objective of developing and constructing a hotel and casino in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The Cannery Casino & Hotel® opened in January 2003 and was so successful that an extensive expansion was initiated within three years, adding more than 125,000 square feet.
In late 2005, CCR purchased the Meadows®, a harness racetrack located 20 minutes south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The $200 million purchase allowed CCR and its affiliate companies to develop a casino with up to 5,000 slot machines in conjunction with the racetrack. In October 2006, CCR and its affiliates were given conditional approval from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) to own and operate The Meadows Racetrack & Casino®. Final PGCB approval was granted in December 2006. The Meadows® opened a temporary casino on June 11, 2007.
The permanent Meadows® facility opened to large fanfare on April 15, 2009. The 350,000-square-foot facility fully integrates horse racing and casino functions, making it a true destination entertainment experience. The casino has over 3,000 slot machines and a covered grandstand area overlooking the racetrack. Future plans include a third party developed 200-room hotel, spa, and retail development that would allow direct access to the gaming floor, restaurants, entertainment facilities and racetrack. CCR’s total investment in Pennsylvania gaming exceeds $500 million.
In August 2008, CCR opened its second Cannery themed property, Eastside Cannery Casino & Hotel®, located seven miles from McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada and expanding the Cannery brand to the Boulder Strip. Eastside Cannery® has 65,000 square feet of casino space. The property features 1,500 slot machines, 20 table games, a 450-seat bingo room, race and sports book and poker room, 307-room hotel that includes 29 suites and a 1,200-seat special events ballroom for banquets or parties, as well as, an upscale private event space on the 16th floor. There are four restaurants, a coffee bar and three bars.
